Kalawad Road in Rajkot is a commercial and institutional artery which leads the way to the city centre. In 2002, Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) proposed to construct a railway underpass to ease the traffic and appointed HCP for the job. The HCP team prepared a detailed design for 550 m long and 20 m wide underpass which clearly segregated the non-motorized traffic (bicycles, pedestrian) from the motorized traffic allowing them an easy access across the railway.
The HCP team also co-ordinated with the Railway Department for various technical and administrative approvals. The four lane RCC main carriageway is flanked by two elevated lanes for non motorized traffic and street lighting.
